Guys,

I've been reading that a new upright Kawai Hybrid, aimed at competing the Yamaha NU1, is on the way to the NAMM.

Could someone add more information about that?

Why don't you share where you read it? That would be huge news here but we have heard no such rumors.

Suryaman…

Is not the Kawai CS10 the upright that fills that niche? My understanding is that this piano separates itself from the other CS offerings because it was designed to be a true hybrid. It is relatively new, by the way. Perhaps being featured at NAMM?

Here is a link:

Cheers!

HisKidd, it's not the CS10. It is something that has a real Kawai upright action but with hammers not hitting real piano strings but other material, just like the Yamaha NU1...

I just ordered the CS10, and this may be seen as confirmation to that something new is coming at NAMM :p More serious, I just dont see Kawai coming out with a new piano featuring an upright action like the NU1. Maybe improved GF action, better sound or better speaker system. But coming out with a new piano in this category now, just doesn't seem to make sense. I have to wait 2 months for my piano, so it seems they dont have problems shifting them either.

Are you refering to the Kawai AnytimeX series. I believe it's been out for a few years but maybe updated models next week. Dont know.

Marko, the anytime x series is the competitor of the Yamaha Upright silent series like the U3 Silent ad so on. They're acoustic upright with the silent system designed installed by Kawai.

I'm talking about a piano exactly like the NU1 but made by Kawai. I really like the NU1 but the bugs it has bother me (like the random loud notes) so I was hoping (cause I read that somewhere) that Kawai would come up with something similar, hopefully implementing their Millenium action, which is one of the best found in upright pianos.

One can only hope. We've actually had lots of people request this. I suspect that the problem is that it's not really that big a market. Once you get to the AvantGrand price point, a lot of people just buy acoustics. Yamaha already has first-mover advantage in the space. Perhaps in the future it will grow enough to bear two manufacturers...

I read somewhere that a Kawai hybrid is on its way to NAAM. Sadly, it's literally just one hybrid. For some reason Kawai has opted not to build more than 1 hybrid. I forgot where I read it; it might've been here. Do not mark my words on that.

I stand corrected; It's NAMM rather than NAAM.

When I'll have some time I'll share my thoughts about this interesting points.
