I took a look at a nice Yamaha M475 at a piano store and was doing some research. The underside of the lid has the stamp Made in the U.S.A, Thomaston, GA, and the seller says it is made in the USA. The seller also refurbishes and sells pianos. However, the serial number begins with 319 and according to Yamaha's website a serial # from Thomaston should begin with T. Based on the website this serial number would have been manufactured in
Hamamatsu, Japan.

The seller seemed to be an honest man but this has got me worried that maybe he refurbished it with a Thomaston lid but the underlying parts are Japan. I'm not sure that is necessarily a bad thing but if this is correct then I have no trust and I can't buy something from someone I cannot trust.

Any thoughts on this from someone more knowledgable? Could I be misunderstanding the serial number issue?

Thanks for any help you could provide.
