As some of you may know I've been working really hard to learn Liszt's Legend no.2. Now while my Yamaha Clavinova is an amazing digital, this piece is really asking waaay too much from it. The dynamics in this piece are so varied and unique that I really need to practice, even for a short while, on an acoustic (grand) piano.

So does anyone here know where I can go maybe rent a room, an after hours available piano, or just a place that has a piano and wouldn't mind someone practicing? Thanks.

If you're in midtown:

853 7th Ave #1D "Piano Rental NYC" is pretty good. When I went there, the pianos weren't spectacular, but they had a huge selection of uprights and grands and they let me play them as much as I wanted (I was looking to rent one).

Beethoven - Op.49 No.1 (sonata 19)
Czerny - Op.299 Nos. 5,7 (School of Velocity)
Liszt - S.172 No.2 (Consolation No.2)

Dream piece:
Rachmaninoff - Sonata 2, movement 2 in E minor

The Greenwich House Music School in Greenwich Village rents practice time, or at least they used to (haven't asked lately). Best early in the day before lessons start.

Try also the Third St. Music Settlement, and also the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music.

You'll probably have to pay some small amount for time at the above places.

Also ask at churches around where you're staying. When I first came to NYC I found practice time at a church in my neighborhood.

I have a Yamaha U3 in my rehearsal studio in Brooklyn. We are looking for some more people to share the space, so let me know if you are interested.
