So there is finally a store in Trinidad that imports Pearl river pianos.

They brought in a GP160 a few weeks ago and currently have the UP115E i believe..

However in their catalogue, there are no Ritmuller pianos available for special order.. There is however the Pearl River P series. All designed by L. Thomma.

Is this P series equivalent to the Ritmuller series in the United States? I'm not finding alot of information on the web. Only some chinese websites which obviously I cannot read

The other pianos available are the ordinary Pearl river models eg. UP130TS & UP125M

Found some British and Australian websites where they are available.

Thought they were marketed as the ritmuller series in the US but it seems these are just a new line of pianos all together.

You probably already found this link for infos about the PR P6 upright.

There are also the new PR P8 and P9 grands as you can see here.

If your local store can order the new uprights, they probably can order the new grands as well.

They can order the grands as well.. Just price is a lot. Plus no space for a grand and wayyy out of my budget.

These pianos seem to be pretty good.

Being designed from l.thomma is a big plus.

Doubt I can go wrong with these pianos.

I prefer get a new Chinese made premium series piano vs a forty year old yamaha.
I think its a better buy..

My pleasure if I can be of any help. I actually found the P series new grands randomly with Google after you started this thread.

And I totally agree with you about choosing a new instrument with 10 years warranty over an old piano.

This P series appear to be the "Ritmullers" of the international market.. In other words they are both designed by l. Thomma and they are both considered to be the premium line of pearl river. I've read nothing but good things about the Ritmullers. . And the price is certainly right for the local market. I believe the local store here is shipping them directly from China.

If i do make the purchase in the near future I will be sure to post up a review on said piano and a video.

It's one out of two piano stores in the island. The other ships xinghai pianos, not as good a rep in comparison to the standard pearl river must less the ritmuller line.

If any of my assumptions are incorrect wrt to the P series and Ritmuller line of pianos please do correct me.

I know ordering sight unseen is a gamble, but in the Caribbean it is actually the norm. Not like I will be able to travel anytime in the near future. Added expense plus no opportunity. Travel expenses add up.

There was another guy who ordered a hailun HG161 sight unseen and he couldn't be happier on this forum.

I can always voice the piano to my liking in case it is too bright but l.thomma designed pearl rivers seem to have a reputation for being warm so might not be a problem.

frankly owning a decent quality acoustic piano by itself is a privilege and a rarity down here.

Will keep in touch and post updates in case anyone is interested. It's about time I took the dive and get an acoustic piano.

Will still scour the local used market in case a diamond in the rough pops up

Feel free to express any opinions wrt to my dilemma,, the blasphemic practice of ordering sight unseen, etc. lol

In my defence we really do have little choice down here.

If you can prep your piano yourself or know a good tech around where you are, you will be able to adjust the new piano more at your liking. Indeed, I remember the fellow you mention who bought a new Hailun sight unseen and was (and very probably still is) quite pleased.

It's also interesting that the Ritmuller R8 and R9 grands, introduced in 2011, are identical in size to the new P8 and P9. I also saw that the new PR P series include Abel hammers. One thing I find nice about the new Ritmuller actions is the feel of the ebony sharps (not glossy). The new P uprights seem to have them too.

I would really just like to know if there will be a huge difference in sound with the top of the line upright P6 vs the Pearl river P8 and P9 baby grand pianos..

I am aware of the benefits of a grand piano action vs an upright piano action..

But sound quality wise alone..

51inch upright vs 5'3 baby grand.

In this case 51inch P6 upright costs 37 000TT$

and the Pearl river P9,,, at least i think it was the P9,, the quoted price is 80 000TT$

Exchange rate is 1US$ = 6.44TT$

is the Baby grands really worth the extra money? Is there really a huge difference between the two?

Point to note once more,, the entire P series of Pearl rivers are all designed by Mr. Lothar Thomma.. i imagine they would all be pretty good quality pianos.

37000TT$ vs 80 000TT$ is a big difference.

Just wanna make sure i'm getting my money's worth, whichever choice i make.
