Hi all,

KAWAI CL26 or KAWAI ES100? It is for night time practising only. Same keyboard, I dont really care about all the other features like recording or different sounds... CL26 comes with a wooden stand unlike the ES100 which is a portable one... Which one would you recommend? Prices are similar too.

Am I missing anything that I should consider before I buy the CL26 and not the ES100?

Thanks! smile

I think the ES100 has a lot more features conducive for performing on stage, like drum sets and such. Also, you'd have to purchase a stand for it whereas the CL26 comes with the cabinet. However, if you want something portable, the ES100 would be the better choice.

I came across this question too. Mostly because the ES100 isn't available in my country yet.

For me, ES100 > CL26. But not by much.

Generally, everything appears to be better in the ES100 and the fact that it is portable makes it that much more appealing to me. CL26 has even less bells and whistles and less polyphony which isn't really a concern, but is a good addition for a similar price. CL26 would also make a slightly better looking furniture than the ES100. The only thing left unanswered is which one has better quality speakers? (I assume it's the one with the cabinet).

The thing that might concern me choosing the ES100 over the CL26 is how the ES100 might not be as sturdy. Such as would the dp be shaking all the time because of its portability?

Normally I would recommend ES100, but I encounter a problem were the pedal have too much delay. After contacting Kawai, this is what they say:

"An internal problem was discovered in a small number of early production units of the ES100 which caused the pedal to operate in the manner that you describe. This problem was quickly corrected and new ES100s now respond correctly to the pedal. The problem was never in the pedal, but rather in the keyboard, so a different pedal will produce the same results on your unit."

I first though the problem was the pedal. They say is the digital piano itself.

If you choice ES100, make sure you get one from the new ones where they say they correct this.

my mate has just bought an ES100 and is awaiting delivery, so is there a serial number they're classing the new ones from which shouldn't have this problem, just so we can check?

Not yet have a way to know what units are affected. You would have to test when arrives. Press a key and release the key at the same time you press pedal. Note should sustain normally. If is partially damped, return the ES100. You can also measure the latency connecting to a computer and with pianoteq installed. My measurements give 0.12 seconds of latency, but don't know how much the fix units have.

Guys, I changed my mind and raised my budget. I am now considering the Roland FP50 or the Kawai ES7, portability and better action. I will open a new thread cos I cannot decided... I like to Roland wireless connectivity to ipad, apps, etc but the Kawai sounds less "plastic" what you think?

Thanks all for your comments!
