I got a new grand piano for my studio in Berlin. Anyone has an idea, what type it could be?

So it's an acoustic grand?

I can't guess the make all that well, but it has a very clear attack, yet quite a warm sound.

I'm thinking along the lines of Bechstein or Grotrian-Steinweg, I don't really know what's leading me to say that (not that Bechstein or Grotrian sound too similar!)

We all know, that it is extremly difficult to find out a piano brand just by hearing. But I'm so curious, what people say to my new instrument. So don't be shy!

Is it a Großauer?

I know that it doesn't seem to sound like what I know.
I don't think it's a Schimmel (brighter) and it's not a Steinway either.

Whatever it is, it is a fine sounding piano. It's too difficult to know in today's market whether it is European or Far-Eastern because there are many fine sounding examples of both.

What I think is that its size is between 178 and 210 centimetres, but sounds more in the 185-193 cm region - just a hunch based on the pianos I've played in the past.

I don't think it's a Bluthner, but I could be wrong, and I'm almost certain it isn't a Bosendorfer either. It may be a Feurich (chinese made) that has been well-prepared, or going on your profile signature it could be something from the Grossauer shop, perhaps a Kawai - which is also a fine sounding piano, and can be mistaken for a European piano on many a recording.

The piano is recorded in a small Studio with 3 mics, close. A little Reverb added, no other effecs. So what you hear, is realy the piano.

I am very new at this game, but I'll give a whirl. The lower register sounds a bit like a Bösendorfer… but that might be too obvious.

I think Bechstein or Fazioli. Clean, bell-like tone, not harsh or "bright" even at ff. Maybe a Yamaha CX (think they warmed up the C for the CX...)

I'm with frenchflip. At first I was going to guess a Bechstein but after listening again, especially to the Chopin, I think it's a Fazioli. The attack on the treble is crisp without being harsh and the base is smooth and silky. Whatever it is, I think it's a concert. It sounds big!

I sure hope you don't keep us in suspense too long!

No, it is a semi-concert. Smaler grands to me have a much more compressed sound. In a way they seem to be louder. I recently tested a Petrof 2,84 side by side with a Steinway A, the Steinway subjektively sounded much louder.

It is a completly different sound, much more compressed and midrange-oriented. It's the same room and micing!

My new piano has a very wide and open sound, as far as my experience goes, this is only possible with semi- and concert grands.

This piano seems to sound fuller, but it is obviously the room (the wall) and not the piano.

So, what is your new grand?

By the way the RX5 also sounds excellent.

I'm not certain it's Fazioli - it doesn't have quite the cantabile of the Faziolis that I've played, but that could be the recording and the room....

Doesn't matter what kind of piano it is. It sounds beautiful! So congratulations are in order.
