Hello
Im considering buying yamaha noU1 nippon gakki skk ,two pedals, by the serial number comes from 1960-61 made for us market as I checked(not sure if this makes it non grey area market)
It would be from second owner ,bought previously in Paris .
Piano is in decent condition inside ,one key plastic needs to be fixed and has very nice sound.
What bugs me is I find it difficult to play.I practice on and play mostly DP yamaha p80 so I was thinking its the acoustic action that is heavier then my DP which could be it but then when I go to music store and play some factory restored U1's in 3-4000euro range Im usually very surprised how I can play much better compared to my DP,hovever with this one I find the execution sort of heavy or clumsy and difficult.
It could possibly be that the action needs to be fixed ,felts replaced etc.
But maybe the instrument itself might be of some inferior quality or made for purposes of studio piano with heavier action and handling.

Please let me know if anyone is familiar with the model, situation etc. and if 1500 euros could be a reasonble deal.

Don't buy a piano if it's not enjoyable to play it. Find another one - there are many more out there.

Do not buy any piano that is at all hard to play. It sounds like it has a friction problem. Probably needs a major rebuild which is way too risky and expensive.

It is 50 or more years old, near the end of its musically useful life. Besides, there's a problem with the action. You can do better; I would keep looking.

When buying a used piano, try to find one that is no older than 15 years, and when you find a serious candidate, always have a qualified piano tech inspect it for condition before you make the deal. This modest cost is money very well spent, and can save you from an ocean of tears later.

And speaking of oceans, this one has been shipped across a couple of them. That is a further question mark, for me, about its condition. Then, there's the two pedals--- that is more common in pianos made for the European market, but for its original American market it is a sign of a lower quality instrument.

It's fine to get a piano you love, but get one that will love you, too. Good luck with your search--- a new year, a new piano, a new life.
