Hi!

I'm new on this Forum and want to buy an upright, that is not too expensive. I went to all of the piano dealers in Budapest (I come from hungary), and found one, that had pearl river pianos, and some petrof. The guy in the shop told me, that they stop selling petrof, because they are too expensive if you compare them to pearl river. He said, that the petrof 116 wouldn't be better than the PR 118, but it costs more. Can you agree with him? I'm a beginner on the piano, but I tried many pianos, and the pearl river seemd to be pretty good. The Petrof was good too, but while the PR had a mellow sound, the petrof sounded brighter.

What do you think? Which one is worth the money?

Thanks for your help!

Between the two, I believe I'd have to choose the Petrof. If possible, try to play as many different pianos that you can. Good luck!

Thanks for your fast response. I know, the name Petrof sounds good, and they make really great pianos, but you have to take in acount, that the 116 is their cheapest modell. Do you still think it's worth the money? I have tried many many pianos, also many new chineese ones, like liu bros & co, palatino, j. nemetschke, and pearl river was the only piano with which I was satisfied. I also have to say, that there is only one reason, why I prefer the PR: It looks better. This might sound funny, but I think, if I buy a piano I also want it to look good. But if you say, the petrof 116 might not look as good as the PR but is a much better instrument, and that is, what counts, you can convince me smile . I never thought, that buying an instrument was so hard.

Thank you very much for your help!

If the Petrof - a mid-priced piano - is getting *too expensive* in some parts of the world,it pretty well shows where we seem to be heading.

We may as well get used to the idea that many people will ask the same question - but what they really will be watching is their - you guessed right - *pocketbook*.

And from judging what I saw myself on the showroom floors of Bechstein and Steinway as well as Steingraeber in Germany, all heavily complemented by a number of nice looking Chinese built pianos these days, the verdict seems to be in:

You may not like them *as much* - but at 1/5 the price [or less] - they're gonna sell.

And at 1/2 price: just as well!

Hi!

The petrof piano I'm looking for is reviewed here:
Petrof 115

The review you have found is about a 115 petrof with renner hammers, which is more expensive.

The price difference between the petrof I was looking at and the PR is not so big.

Petrof 115 costs about 2360
Pearl River 118 costs about 2180

In the review on pianos online the petrof doesn't seem to be that good, and in the reviews of chineese pianos there are many which seem to be as good as the petrof. That's why I ask you for your opinion.

Again thanks for your help!

I've yet to see a Chinese piano that is anywhere near the quality of a Petrof.

In a few years however...

Ok, if everyone says, I should take the Petrof, I will. Is there any argument for the Pearl River?

I know, it's not really possible to compare pianos, but are the yamaha and petrof pianos similar in quality?

How long will a Petrof work well, if I care for it?

If I want to get another piano later, is it easy to sell a petrof?

You helped me really much! Thank you!

Sorry, I have to correct myself, it's not the 116 E1, but the 118 L1. The cheapest petrof.

While the Yammie would be easier to sell later, in every other respect the Petrof is the superior piano.

Now if you compare similarly priced Yammies/Petrofs, it becomes more competitive.
