A boudoir grand- about 6'6" to 7' by Bechstein, or Bluthner, or Grotrian Steinweg. I don't mind. If I had to absolutely go with only 1 it would be the Grotty.

I suppose it would have to be a Bosendörfer Imperial (It would fit in my house but would the sound??? otherwise a 225)
Would also want to try a Steinway but not sure which model. The D would perhaps be to loud.
Or I could stick with Schimmel, I do like the sound. Lets say a Schimmel K213 NWS.
So much choice... I wouldn't want to miss the selection process could that be part of the Christmas gift?

My humble wish - the Bosendorfer 155 with Yamaha's SH silent system (cannot squeeze in anything larger) cool

At the moment it would be any piano. Just a piano would be nice santa.
But if I could choose then it would be a Steinway grand. In black.

Any top Concert Grand, but my very own piano technican who would live in a dungeon under the piano room and ensure the piano was always in absolutely top recital condition. They would be allowed out to attend all techncian conferences world wide of course. Ideally every six months the piano movers would turn up and swap the piano for another top Concert Grand just to provide variety.

I haven't played many pianos, so I'll have to select the Hamburg D. Maybe if someone directs me to a Yamaha CFX near Salt Lake City I can go try it.

Mine too, but I'd like it in mahogany or walnut, please. Either would do.

I would keep my piano, a 1954 Baldwin L, as I love its history, but I would love to be able to send it to Ed McMorrow and also arrange a tete a tete between him and Del Fandrich so that it could be brought to its full potential.

I would also want to be able to watch EVERYTHING!!!!

Wow, BDB, you have some gorgeous pianos! At least the green I have turned with envy goes with the season!

I have two top choices. First, the new Schimmel full size concert grand (9' or so), is a miracle of balance, tone, touch, and everything else I can think of. Second, I once years ago played a 9' (or so) Fazioli in flame mahogany. Not only was it an incredible piano (the most important criterion after all), it was a piano of surpassing beauty in appearance as well.

But since those are in the realm of fantasy both in terms of price and available space, I want to note that I love the two pianos I am fortunate enough to have now. Considering my irrevocably amateur status, I am a very lucky person.

By the way, if I could pick an alternative career, it would have been as a player in a piano bar, or one of those people who play background music at posh Sunday brunches. But I am incapable of improvisation, and it is certainly too late now. But I have the pianos that could do it, even if I can't.

Hey, I'm sure you're better than me. I'm a real amateur....my playing is evidence of that. I mean, I can do more than that, and I can improvise classical, But it IS sort of hard.
I've never played a Schimmel or a Fazioli, but I can already tell they're good pianos.
Speaking of concert grands, I think I change my fantasy Christmas piano wish to a Wurlitzer 9 foot Concert Grand. They made very few of those.
And by few I mean perhaps in the low double digit range, maybe 20 or so. Maybe even around 10.

I already have mine. Two S&S B's. One from 1911 which I fully rebuilt about 3 years ago and the other from 1960, just about ripe enough to begin its renewal.

Friends:

I guess this didn't a great deal of thought. My choice would be a vintage Mason and Hamlin BB which had received a sympathetic restoration and a Stanwood action.

A brand new Steinway D. Then I'd sell it, get a used B and bank the leftovers.

Seeing as I'm already taking a Yuletide delivery of my newly-rebuilt and restored Model L, I guess the only thing better would be a brand new Hamburg D or go go back in time and take possession of Rachmaninoff's Bluthner wink (after he became a Steinway artist, natch)

Or it could be this. I have heard two rumors about what became of this piano. One was that it ended up in a private villa in France, and the other, that it was placed outside on an estate in England, where it sank into the ground and was swallowed up.
