Hi pianists !

Here I come with another basic question.

What are the chords of a minor key ?

mi = minor
ma = major
dim = diminish
dom = dominant 7

Answer #1:
I mi
II dim
III ma
IV mi
V ma
VI ma
VII dom

Answer #2:
I mi
II dim
III ma
IV mi
V mi
VI ma
VII dom

( the difference is the V ma vs V mi )

Is it possible to simplify things this much !?
smile

Thanks in advance

Why do you ask? Either answer can be correct.

If you are asking whether a triad built on the fifth scale degree of a natural minor scale is major or minor, the answer is obviously minor.

If you are asking whether composers commonly use a major/dominant V chord in compositions written in a minor key, the answer is yes.

Larry.
