I realise a definitive figure might be difficult but by how much does a typical caster cup raise the piano?

Well --------- It depends.

Usually about 1/4". - Maybe up to 1/2". - Yep, the Piattinos are 1/2". - But then again ...

On a thick carpet, it really doesn't matter.

Never buy caster cups made out of Papier Mâché, however.

Thank you MM. The advice regarding the Papier Mache is particularly useful. Would stale bagels work?

Well, as with anything 'piano,' one must always research the quality of the Bagelmeister who produces the product. If the bagels are produced using Renner brand flour, there is a strong possibility of a well cupped caster. Usually. if the bagel purveyor is named ****** & Sons, you can be assured of extended structural staleness support.

These sorts of bagel cups can easily be decorated to match the finish on the piano. Lox and Cream Cheese are always popular.

Please excuse me as I go gnaw around the legs of my piano. I'm hungry.
