Hello!

Any of you that have experience teaching with Alfred's Basic Piano Library books:

Is it just me or do the ABPL Level 2 Christmas books jump quite significantly in difficulty from Level 1B Christmas books? I feel I need to get my students through the Level 2 Lesson book first before the Level 2 Christmas books are comfortable to learn.

It all depends on the student, of course, but does it seem odd to have to learn a level's Lesson book first before the Christmas book is even doable?

Edit: The jump in "difficulty" really is in the fingering. For example, playing a fifth in the LH with your 5 and 2 fingers. Throws my students off. This may stem from ABPL focusing so much on fixed hand positions?

I don't use the Alfred Christmas books. I do use a variety of books, however, to find what's right for a student. Try looking into Faber Piano Adventure Christmas books and Hal Leonard for alternatives.

I agree with Morodiene, and would like to add that I recently bought Alfred PREMIER series Christmas books in levels 1-4 and like these better than the old Alfred series. Just my opinion.
