I realize that the November thanksgiving day is a USA holiday but I wonder if there are any appropriate songs related to it.
My Granddaughters (6 and 8 ) would like to play something for the family gathering but I cannot think of a single thing. That actually surprised me.
Any ideas?

For some reason, Simple Gifts seems to come to mind. There are tons of different arrangements out there I'm sure - perhaps one piano four hands?

In a holiday pinch for a tune, there are two slam dunks:
1.) There's no place like home for the holidays.
2.) The song "Linus and Lucy" from A Charlie Brown Christmas (Vince Vince Guaraldi).
There is no official connection with the holiday but the kids will love the Snoopy tune best.

My Favorite Things from The Sound of Music can be a nice easy song, and fits the mood of the holiday.

We Gather Together (To Ask the Lords Blessing). Not sure if that is the exact name. It should be in the public domain and fairly easily found. I will see if I can find a link.
Happy Thanksgiving and many blessings to all of my new piano friends!

Thank you, BridgetC! I knew there was tune out there that was just on the edge of my memory, and that was it! But Grandma's house kept crowding it out Cathy

Awesome, thanks a lot folks. I know some of those and they all seem appropriate.
I'll look them all up and use they either like the best or that they can play by then.
Fun stuff.

How about "Thanksgiving" by George Winston from his "December" album? It's a very pretty and lyrical piece written in e-minor I believe. My son really enjoys playing this - one of the only pieces he seems to remember by heart. I believe you can purchase the sheet music online. Happy Turkey!

Manndrew - Thanks a lot, I'll check it out. I hadn't heard of it but I do like George Winston.

Jim Brickman's "Blessings" comes to mind. But his music is deceptive - doesn't look too hard on the page but can be tricky to get it to sound right. Or maybe it's just me.
Collector of sheet music I can't play.

America, The Beautiful could be well suited 6 and 8 year old grand kids for Thanksgiving. Its lyrics include amber waves of grain and Pilgrim feet.
