He everyone, I'm looking for a DP for my 7 year old daughter and my new budget is around the $1200AUD which will get me a Kawai CL36. (example)

Another option is shop in my city which imports used DPs from Japan, so a 5 year old mid level DP can be had for the same price. So rather than a question about brands I'm wondering if a higher end piano from 5+ years ago rates against a newer entry level DP

I don't know the Kawais in particular, but in general, I think a high end model from years back will still generally have a better action than an entry level model today. The bigger differences are probably on the sound side... but if the logistics of it can work for you, you can easily connect a computer to get a more modern piano sound that would be better than either.

Northern England.
If you want your daughter to learn to play this, consider. A cheaper new digital will not look as impressive as a higher end mode. Some of those look impressive. Look through her eyes; she`ll be well disposed to this electronic marvel vying for her attentions. Especially if it has a nice polish to it!

You may get a better keyboard for the money too. But a 5yo piano imported from Japan? Might have been flogged to death. Why else would they ship `em out? Does nobody nuy pianos in Japan? Course they do. . .

Difficult decision. The best to ya man!

kelpie67, it really depends on the model of the second hand DP, however as a starter piano, the CL36 is an excellent choice.

Kind regards,
James
