Hi there,

New here. Have lots of questions.

So I'm working on Rachmaninoff's brilliant opening etudes of op. 39.

What is one's approach to making the 16th triplets in No.1 crystal clear. I find that some pianos are easier than others to bring out these notes and drive the piece home. But generally, it is incredibly tough. What are these figures a study for? Wrist movement? Finger dexterity? A combination?

For No. 2 (in a minor)there is an abundant amount of tenuto markings which I am clueless as how to apply the accented or held meanings to the notes. Pedaling is not indicated although implied after playing the piece without pedal (sounds stagnant). I am taught to change pedal with dfferent harmonies although I've heard recordings of Ashkenazy and Richter holding the pedal over multiple harmonies, allowing non-chord tones to ring throughout a measure but this is not indicated in any sheetmusic editions I've discovered.

Any suggestions? Comments?

Thanks

Hi, and welcome to Piano World!

You will likely get more responses over on the Pianist's Corner, Piano Teacher or Adult Beginners Forums. This is the piano forum where acoustic pianos are discussed (mostly, among other things smile ).

If you'd like, I can move your post there for you so you don't have to retype it.

It's my understanding that these etudes are a study in composition and structures possible for the piano player. I'm sure there are people in the Pianist's Corner who know much more about this.

Enjoy

Hey there,

That would be great if you would do that!
Thanks!

This seems to be in the wrong forum.

In order to get responses you should post in the Pianist Corner. Not here at the non-classical forum.
