This really is fun!

Rich, did they wrap-up in one day or is there another session today?

Some additional 'stills' would be great!

Thanks for posting.

They are wrapping up the video shot today. It is amazing how much time goes into each shot... and each shot is only seconds. The director said that for each minute of actual final edited video between one and two hours of time has to be spent in filming.

Here are a few stills from the past few days:

The producer (in blue) sets up the next video sequence.

About to shoot!

This is what the cameraman sees.

The one disappointing thing about this video is that the crew has a set time for a set number of shots. This means that we will be able to communicate the overview of what a typical restoration is, but will not be able to go into incredible detail within each step because of their schedule. I would love to have this opportunity with no finite schedule.

That would be fun!

Wow, this is really great, Rich. My son loves that show. I wonder if he will recognize your shop when he sees it. If he does then I think he will get a big kick out of it.

So the day is ending,

Things are dying down and we hope to be completed with the actual footage today. What fun I have had with a tremendous film crew and an expert staff - all of whom worked as a team. I have uploaded a few more stills from this afternoon for those who have interest:

Framing some of the last shots

Still framing.

Packing up some of the equipment.

This has been an adventure for me personally and I am looking forward to seeing the final product. It is a little intimidating because after the crew leaves, it is really all up to them. Editing is an art in itself and can change the viewers perception of what is happening, for sure.

(I hope we don't hate it)

Rich,
My sincerest congratulations....you deserve the exposure and recognition. That being said, I agree that these things can be a crapshoot as far as being represented as you had hoped. I remember I was training for the Minnesota State Body Building Championships years ago and a local newspaper contacted me for an interview. The reporter and cameraman spent about an hour with me in the gym, asking questions and photographing the way one trains for these things. I thought it would be interesting and enlightening for folks that don't necessarily follow this stuff to see what goes into it. When the article was published, it was really shocking to me how little understanding the reporter had of what I was trying to say and the concepts I tried to get across. It is very unnerving to have your words and thoughts misrepresented by someone else, especially in a public venue. I also agree that something like piano restoration needs to get into the specifics and "nitty gritty" details to really convey what an incredible process it is.

We are all aware of the fine quality of work that comes out the Cunningham rebuilding shop, but, ya gotta admit that the historic building makes it Extra Awsome!

It'll look great on TV.

If they can make a gun using 3D printing technology, when can they print a Steinway D?

Sorry, S&S doesn't use a WN&G action.

(Totally OT)

Rich, I will be monitoring PW for a heads up of when this will air.

I think they picked the right shop to film!

Kudos, brother!

I watch the Discovery Channel during my workouts at the gym.

I'm looking forward to seeing this over here!

Since I was born and raised in Philadelphia I hope the crew includes some shots of the area outside the workshop as well.

Yes! You feel my pain. Unfortunately, we can only try to communicate as best we can. The good news is that we will have input into the narration, but the ultimate decisions are still theirs. That is the scary part for me.

Thank you OT. I only wish I could somehow convince you to relocate to Philadelphia. Your hands and ears would be well used here.

It occurs to me that they might show different episodes there, Dave. Have you seen many episodes based in the USA?

Rich, I think I see the same episodes as you though at different times. The Dutch typically do not do voice overs, they show programs in their original language and add Dutch subtitles at the bottom of the screen.

Discovery Communications: thirteen cable channels, feeding a giant media maw which is ever-starved for content. I'll bet they have a whole department that does nothing but vet suggestions from viewers. In fact, I should not wonder if they have a department which prepares educational films for private, non-broadcast training seminars.

Immense market for writers and creatives, and many technicians... not to mention front of the camera workers, or their famous, spoken narrative tracks.

Let us know the date, Rich, so we can program our boxes. The TV listings are the stepchild of the industry: so poor, when they could be so rich.
