I'm working on Beethoven now too! Op 2 no 1 1st and 3rd mvts. And Moonlight 2nd mvt.

I think depending on how I do on these, my teacher has ideas about me tackling a full sonata. ????? I don't now about that!!

I'm in if we do something like this. Definitely duplicates allowed and submit whatever format you want Mp3 or video.

It's taken me weeks to get 49/1 1st mvt close to playable, and that is one of the "easy" sonatas. The turns in the right hand and the Alberti bass are my nemesis. And the sonata, to me, now sounds more like Mozart than Beethoven...

Hi Sam,

I remembered you mentioning Alberti bass on this thread (that was before I knew what it was!) I found this tutorial online today and though it deals with a different Beethoven sonata, thought it might be helpful to you or to anyone else working on Alberti bass:

The 2nd movement of the Pathetique sonata (#8 Op.13) is absolutely do-able in short order (I know 'cuz I can play it). Don't know about the other movements.

Interesting thread. I think there are some big challenges in some the pieces being thrown about here - someone who can only just serve up the notes of the 1st movement of the Moonlight sonata is going to get a shock even just try Op 2 or the Pathetique slow movement. But, it is wonderful music, and worth exploring.

I would like to advance a vote for some of the earlier movements of the Op 26 sonata in A flat - specifically the theme and the easier variations. It's lovely music and very 'pianistic' I think.

Don't worry Timmy....Beethoven drove a (by all accounts very good) pianist called Daniel Steibert to leave Vienna as Beethoven wiped the floor with him in an epic piano improvisation concert. What mortal could compare themselves to Beethoven? blush

Keep going...I made a right mess of Fur Elise tonight yet I know I can do better on it.
