This is quite extraordinary. The wonderful Maria João Pires is ready to play a Mozart piano concerto with the Amsterdam Concertgebouw conducted by Riccardo Chailly, only to hear the orchestra begin playing another Mozart concerto – no 20 in D minor, K466, not what she was expecting or had prepared for. Can you imagine her horror? Just watch a true professional:

There's a thread about this on the Pianist Corner, Rich.

Here

It actually happened 4 or 5 years ago, but suddenly people are discovering it.

Stephen Hough has a slightly more skeptical take on this event:

ando,

A Facebook friend of mine (who is also a professional pianist) shared it on her timeline yesterday. I knew it did not happen recently from the date on the video. Obviously, that doesn't make it any less impressive to me though.

I think it is awe inspiring to be able to switch gears like that in a moment.

Hi Rich, I wasn't meaning to downplay it at all, just thought you might like to read the discussion about it going on in the other forum. smile

And yes, it is very impressive to switch gears in such a way.
