Wow, that's a new one! Does the winding stop before the becket goes through the tuning pins?!

I'm surprised more aren't broken. How does it sound?

I was as surprised as you,Phil D.
How it works or not ... can not answer, because I found this picture in the related Web only.
I will assume that it's sounds dull and poor. This reminds sound that similar when the bass the bridge come off (glue without) from the soundboard

Isааc, if I understood you correctly modification pin's mechanism piano different from our classical upright piano where are (pin-bush-pinblock-string). Is it so?

No, I guess they soon begin to have the winding only in the sounding section, that is all.

It took yet some time to see the first iron frame, then to see the pin block covered by the plate ...

That very large diameter around the pin make the tuning imprecise.

I agree that winding only in the sounding section
