Hello,

I just worked on a K.Kawai KG-1A grand today. The fallboard is falling way too fast. The owners say that it was always like this from new.

There doesn't seem to be a way to adjust the speed. Is there a way to slow the falling of the fallboard? Or, is it necessary to acquire a whole new mechanism for the left side?

The slo-fall mechanism can be replaced. There is no adjustment.

In the US or Canada, contact the Kawai service department at 800-421-2177 and ask for piano parts.

You should not be overly concerned about this. THis is so unusual that I decided to post the question here. If it was a recurring problem, I would aready have researched the solution.

This is just one defect on this one specific piano. When you go to look at the KG-1A, check the speed of the fallboard. Unless it falls on its own at an extremely fast speed, you are probably OK. Kawai builds fine products.
