So far the only Tschaikovsky I've played was a piano transcription of the Swan Lake theme. That's not exactly much, so learning a real piano piece by Tschaikovsky would be something new. A challenge.
I guess I'll wait a few weeks, and then see which pieces are still available.

Everything is possible, and nothing is sure.

I wouldn`t wait too long; some o` that stuff is hard! I only selected mine because it was very tuneful. But I seriously wonder if I`m up to it . . . !

I was surprised to find that much of the music I wasn't that thrilled about. But then again, Tchaikovsky is much more known for his orchestral music. Anyways, I'll give Op 2 No 1 a go.

Hm. I don't know any of the music laugh But there are certainly people here I want to listen to! This should be fun.

Well, "June" is back in the mix. It's beautiful, but the middle section has some chords that are stretching my right hand in a way that is hurting my wrist (arthritis/tendonitis). So I think I should set this piece aside for now.

Instead (for now) I'll try the Nocturne 10/1. I have a feeling it will be too challenging in the time given and I'll be back to pick out another one. But it will be fun to try. smile

Wow! - this is a bit like musical chairs. I'll drop August and take June from you Valencia. It's one of Tchaikovksy's undeniably prettier tunes and worth learning.

In case you've just joined us and are thinking of taking part, you might have missed Wayne's list on the 'next themed recital' thread. If you click on the link in his post, you can sample 30 seconds of each of these pieces - really useful if you're not sure what to pick.

Valencia - I'm sure 'June' will get picked by someone else. Its such a beauty that I considered it for myself - especially as its one of the easier pieces.

Actually, Dipsy, you're right, it's not a difficult piece and I'm feeling guilty about snapping it up.....stand by for June to be liberated in the next post!!!! (I'm also feeling faintly ridiculous for having changed my mind so often, lol!)

Wow - (my post crossed with yours dire tonic) - June didn't hang around long did it? I'm glad you've now relinquished it. We need the likes of you (i.e. any v competent pianists) for the trickier stuff! wink

Ok, I'm jumping back to seasons/August though I have fears for my arthritis with that one so there's a possibility of it becoming available again. I'll need a few weeks to see how it goes...

Having played "June" in a Quarterly recital, I will attest that there are some tricky stretches in it. But, it is a beautiful piece. I'm sure someone will pick it up. If it were ever to come down to the last minute with no one having taken it. I could pick it up quickly. But, I doubt that will be necessary.

- absolutely! wide stretches and/or big chords can make even the most approachable piece out of the question.

Let me know if you'd like some fingering advice with said B section. I remember using rather unorthodox fingering, albeit fluidly, for a certain part of the A sections, but otherwise don't recall having to stretch over an octave anywhere in the piece by dividing notes between the hands.

Please clarify something. I'm not clear whether we decided that we would indicate any second choices just yet, or whether we'd go ahead and show our second choices, but use a different typeface (to make it clear that it is a second choice e.g italics). And we only get that piece if no one else wants it as their piece (1st)?

Notwithstanding the above, Morodiene, if previous recitals are anything to go by, we will be extremely grateful for any and all pieces you do, as you've helped the team effort so much!

BTW - rather than referring anyone interested in participating (and who wants to hear what a piece sounds like) to Wayne's post in the other thread, I should have just copied the link - duh! So here it is:

Hiya Helen, maybe we should stick the link to the list, otherwise the link soon gets lost smile

And yes, I also thought second/third choices were to be differentiated from first choices. x

Thanks for pointing that out dynamobt - I wasn't aware of this problem.

Wayne - thanks for adding the link to the list for those of us who can access it - I'm sorry it can't be accessed in the US though. If any of you out there know of another link which could be used for those of you who can't use Wayne's link, could you please share it with us here?

How about showing second choices in italics?

Oh, sorry, I didn't realize we weren't doing 2nd choices yet. I'll just remove mine in case someone wants them.
