I have made a few recordings during my studies of these pieces. Actually I'm very glad I started early, because listening to my own playing has been quite disappointing. I obviously have a lot to work on in order to get the smooth melody lines I'm aiming for. My rubato sounds unnatural and I have serious issues with the pedaling.

Obviously the Chopin mazurkas are much more difficult than they appear at first glance. I really hope that I'll be able to improve significantly during the remaining weeks before the deadline.

Don't panic yet! I'm nowhere near even being able to think about recording. I do want to start the process sooner though so I can really work on refining it, but I'm thinking if I start recording 2-3 weeks before the deadline that should be sufficient time.

smile I hate listening to myself. The first recording I get without an obvious blunder will be submitted without review.

I made one weeks ago, quite chuffed with myself. Until I played it back . . .too slow, too many shortcuts .. . I`m glad to say things are better now. But I`ll delay recording Mk 2 for a little while. . . .I just enjoy playing it! That`s a first, I`m usually sick of `em by now. tired

I'm not quite at the point where I enjoy playing it, still too many things to work out in both. The A minor one is getting smoother with the octaves though, so soon I think I'll be over that hump. My trill needs more work though, I can play it without fatigue, but it's a bit uneven, so still need to work that out. The B major needs work on the second iteration of the B section, and of course the last page and a half is tricky. Slowly but surely!

Presently I make recordings just as an aid for the study of the pieces. It is a bit frustrating, since even the slightest inaccuracy becomes audible, but the recordings are invaluable when comes to identify things to improve.

I'm also listening to other pianists' recordings. The interpretations of these pieces vary a lot, and there seems to be no specificly "correct" way to play them. Particularly Op.63 no.1 is played very differently by different master pianists.

I really look forward to this recital. It is going to be very interesting.

On behalf of Beric (who is my dad and doesn't use computers much) could you please update the list to show that he is taking on KK IIb no 4 in A minor and (instead of me) Op 68 No 1 in C. Hope this is ok.

So that just leaves four pieces in need of a home!

Make the title "Mazurka Recital Submission - Opus 41 No 2" or whatever your piece is. Then in the body of the post simply embed or link to your video/recording, and if you need a blurb about your piece please keep it to a minimum - we don't need "This isn't very good" or "I didn't have very much time to record" or similar preambles.

I've given him 68/1. IIb/4 is already taken.

Take me out of the set. There's just no way can I make it. I don't currently have any recording equipment.

Sorry - my mistake. Will talk to Beric about KK IIb no 4. Hopefully one of the untaken will appeal instead. The numbering of those posthumous ones throws me, as you can tell.

JoelW I didn't have any equipment before the recent Grieg recital, and didn't know how to record. But I got hold of a Blue Snowball (for around £50), just plugged it into my laptop and it did it all for me - with good quality results.

I just think it'd be a shame if a lack of recording equipment was all that prevented you from taking part

Ya, and I doubt many of us here will be making studio-quality recordings. If you set the recording level down on your laptop mic so that it doesn't overpower it you may be able to get a decent take that way, then just increase the volume after the fact.

What kind of format is required for the recording this time? A video for YouTube or just an audio file?

3 Mazurkas left! Who's going to seize these last few?
