Hello Jurgen

Here is a photo of the brass flange rail you asked me about so long ago.

I have used Chuck Behms instructions to Jude to post this, but did not know how to until now.

I have taken Chucks instructions on posting photos on PW and have edited them slightly, according to what I did.

And once again, Many thanks to Chuck for his help.

Instructions below,

An easy way to post pictures is to go to TinyPics.com . Follow the directions to upload a photo.

Take/copy the code from Tiny Pics, and insert it into your PW post.

Sorry Jurgen, the brass flange rail is from a Schiedmayer & Soehne upright piano.

Circa - 1901

The Schiedmayer has a spring rail which was not in place when the photo was taken.

That is similar to a Kimball action.

Interesting, thanks for posting.
No hammer traveling needed (nor is it possible). They probably got it right setting it up at the factory, considering it was Schiedmayer. It is a better set-up than the old Steinway damper arms with seemed to be designed to break at the brass plate screw.

By the way, where are the damper springs? Kimball actions had the spring on the plates which held the damper levers to the rail.

BDB, The dampers are very similar to these, http://pianomaker.co.uk/technical/upright_dampers/

BDB, on closer inspection of the dampers in the link I provided, I conclude that they are actually exactly the same type.
