Hi Guys! not sure if this is the correct section to post this in. But I was wondering if there's anyone here from around Sydney, Australia that would be able to recommend a Jazz piano teacher for me.

I started playing classical piano when I was 5, (and stopped taking lessons when I was 18), but now I want to learn Jazz. I'm finding it quite hard to find teachers that specialise in Jazz piano or I just don't know where to look. If anyone is able to recommend someone I'd really appreciate it!

Hi Kennikay. There's a member here called custard apple who is [1] from sydney, and [2] into jazz piano. He might have some ideas. You could perhaps send him a PM (private message).

Thank you currawong for your input into the issue of a jazz teacher in Sydney.

I can understand your difficulty ken which I also experienced a few years ago. Jazz teachers here, generally speaking, tend to be fusion or Latin.
My teacher since May is Mark Polishook who is a wonderful teacher in all genres of jazz.
He also accepts beginners in jazz such as myself.
I skype with Mark, the time difference is actually good since we began daylight saving.
I attach Mark's web-site.
http://www.polishookstudio.com/

He is also a member on this forum if you would like to send him a PM, alternatively you can email him.

And of great benefit to my jazz is his strong grounding in classical technique and theory. That's great you have the background in classical.

Thanks for the replies everyone!

Thanks custard for recommending Mark. Had a read of his website and Mark definitely seems like a wonderful and knowledgeable teacher. I'm just a bit tentative with skype lessons, probably because I've grown up and gotten used to taking lessons in-person. BUT I'll definately keep it in mind as an option seeing as you seem to be very happy with it laugh

And thanks rebecca and currawong for helping out laugh
