Hi gvfarns,

You might enjoy this little exchange I had with the troll. I had some extra time on my hands today, plus, the 4 Lagunitas IPA's fired me up, lol:

Not sure, but Kraft Music in US has them in stock now. No longer pre-order.

I might order one this week.

Regarding Europe, Thomann has another new model in stock - Kawai CN-14.
It seems to be the console equivalent of ES100 (has AHA IV-F and HI sound). Which brings the question - is it possible that Kawai Europe brought CN-14 to market instead of ES100, as a consequence of the fact that console pianos are much more popular in Europe than in the US?

(I apologise if CN-14 was discussed before, quick search on Pianoworld didn't bring me any results)

The sad thing about CN-14 is that its current price at Thomann (€925) is higher than the price of CL-36 (€888), yet CL-36 features much better specs (RH action and PHI sound).

Yes, I noticed that too. Seems to be a new model with the same specs as the ES100 , though other cabinet. You could be right.

Don't worry, the ES100 is definitely coming to Europe.

Also, I don't believe that console pianos are more popular in one region than another.

Kind regards,
James

I don't believe Kawai Europe have decided the release date yet.

My recommendation would be to raise this question with Kawai Europe.

Kind regards,

No answer from them within a week. I guess it won't be available anytime soon...

That's strange. I checked with my colleagues in Europe, but they do not have a record of your message.

May I ask which email address you sent your query to, please?

It may also help if you could resend the message.

James

with the help of Kawai James and very friendly staff of Kawai Europe I have received following answer:
Quote
Yes, the ES100 is already introduced in several countries.
However so far we do not have any concrete plan when or if we introduce it in Europe.
Please check our websites in the future.
If we decide to release it, usually we announce it 1 month in advance.
In any case I can tell that it will surely not be available within this
year.

I had a chance to play the ES100 the other day just for about a 1/2 hour. Unfortunately, I was limited as the store was very busy. Quick thoughts - It's probably best out of all the "portables" Ive tried. The action felt more convincing and acoustic-like than the PX150/350/5S and much better than the GHS. However not quite as solid, quiet, and smooth as the GHE that I seem to keep going back to. The sound was excellent. Not necessarily "better" just different in tone and dynamics via headphones (much "wider" sound than the others). Something about Kawai's sampling on all the digitals I’ve tried just seems so genuine (w/ headphones) in my opinion. If you care, the speakers are way better than the PXs and more on par with P105 but not as robust and powerful as the killer ES7. My short list is now ES100 and CP33. As nice as ES100 sounds, just nowhere near as solid build and action as CP33. However, ES100 action is very good and sounds as good or possibly better than CP33 and $200 cheaper - and I really don't want built in speakers (but it's a common feature in my price range). Again, I am only comparing these two for myself. I clearly understand that they are both in different leagues for different purposes and technically should not be compared.

Conclusion. If you are shopping PX150/350 and P105, you MUST try the ES100 before you buy. It's well worth your time and money if you need a highly portable digital piano with the best action & piano sound available for under $800.

--True but maybe not too far off. Its obviously compared to the P105 , but I also think it could be compared with the Yamaha p155 to some degree which is similar to CP33.

--I completely agree with you about Kawai's sampling sounding "genuine". It even holds up well against some of the best VSTs out there IMO.

--I also like the proven action of GH. It almost seems to be the goto-default-happy-medium action of the digital piano world. It won't blow you away, but it won't let you down.

--Thanks for your review on ES100. ES100 is on my radar for office piano. I am going to Kawai dealer to poke around a bit this weekend. OT: Also going to look at K3 & K5, but that is another story for the other forum. Will post what's up later.

Nice review. Kind words for the ES100 but I hope it causes the GH yamahas to drop in price to $800. The big mystery is the gap between the $1000 CP33 and the $1900 ES7. Sure the ES7 is nice, but it aint that much better.
