What do you think about the return back to the main theme at halfway point? Does it work? Also, disregard the end of the second half, I won't be keeping that the same.

Any thoughts or tips?

I'm not exactly sure what I think but I do think as a composer you can set your own boundaries....so to speak...lots of music follows formats but I don't see anything wrong with creating your own. Also, can I ask if you played that or was it computer generated?

This was computer generated. It's a MIDI file. And in fact, I completely changed what I asked about in the OP so this thread is really quite useless now, but it's too late to delete. smile

It's got a very nice honkytonk turn of the 19th to 20th century feel. So I hope you've kept that. About the return you asked about I heard it as a repeat of the exposition which means this piece can be a lot longer than a minute plus a few seconds. I also like the way the harmony is rich and shifts gently, it's very much in keeping with the style. Of course this being the 21st century feel free to take it a bit wilder than would have happened back then.

HI,
You'll probably want to lower the velocities on the left hand part because the accomp is very loud in comparison to the melody part. Also, it would be nice to hear the two hands play something together instead of the lead being always in the right hand.

The rhythms in this are great. Couldn't help bobbing my head.

I agree with Steve. And I think I had noticed the same in one of your preludes or miniatures, one of the very first ones. Do you like the music of that period? It is indeed nice.

I don't hear any Honky Tonk in my music. I've written a few pieces in 4/4 with this kind of left hand. Is that what you're talking about?

I remember that when I first heard the prelude or miniature I referred to in my post (I don't remember what you had called it) I immediately thought of the 30s (approximately, I am not really an expert). If you give me the link to your music I can tell you which of your pieces I am referring to.

This?

This was the second piece I ever wrote. Looking back on it, it could certainly use some revisions.

Yes, I think that was it. Some passages sound like from the beginning of the 20th century I think, but it's nice.

That's what Steve said. smile I actually agreed with the "period" thing (even if my quote included the honky-tonk part).
