There's a ton of 'pop' piano music on YouTube, like that of Tiersen, Glass, Nyman, O'Halloran, and other enjoyable, easy-to-listen-to-easy-to-play (relatively!) composers.

I became interested in 'minimalist' music and I thought it'd be great to share some of the best of the best.

On the Philip Glass side, you might have already heard this, but Mad Rush has lots of miniature paroxysms of vitality, interwoven by a delicate, constant, quiet melody. I can definitely dig even the repeats:

Michael Nyman brings the next piece, a concerto for piano + orchestra, in four parts. Here's the first movement. Lots of memorable, standout moments, especially in the last four minutes:

Another fabulous modern minimalist is Ludovico Einaudi, and here's one of his pieces for mixed instrumentation:

They say to save the best for last, and my laziness is perfectly obliged by the fact that John Adams' Shaker Loops sings its own praises:

What's your take on minimalist music? Which composers am I missing out on? Which new-age composers out there aren't getting enough attention, YouTube sensations or otherwise?

Are there any other classical fans on here who find it hypocritcal when people vitiate music like this for its lack of musical content, but yet claim that '[substantial] music isn't written to be difficult on purpose' (even though lots of 'substantial' repertoire definitely is)?

I can't wait to hear what others can't wait for everyone else to hear!

I expected more minimal than that.
Here's a guy that played one chord all the way to the bank.

Remember Bo Diddly, made a career out of one chord.

Rhythm & Chords, it's what I do.

Dwscamel, my "minimalism" playlist on iTunes has 197 tracks, so you can tell I really like this thread! smile

Einaudi is sheer genius as far as I'm concerned (and my favorite composer for piano). You've got him covered, though, so I won't add any more videos by him.

Other composers in a similar vein include Wim Mertens, Alessandra Celletti, Josh Winiberg, Bruno Bavota, Giovanni Bomoll, Max Richter...I'd better stop now before I get out of control. Here's a few of my favorite pieces:

Wim Mertens, Struggle for Pleasure.

Giovanni Bomoll, Tropical Dream:

Josh Winiberg, Sunrise:

Alessandra Celletti, Golden Fly One:

Bruno Bavota, La Danza delle Stelle:

Max Richter, Sarajevo:

And then there's this wonderful video by Noah Adams using Carly Comando's "Everyday." (Worth having to skip through the ad if you've never seen it.)
