Hey guys I know a lot of you take videos of your own playing, and I want to start recording myself playing. I see a lot of people record themselves from the top view, but how do they get the camera above them looking down like that?

I was thinking that I would just use the video camera on my iPad.

Thanks!

Wow, 2 seconds after posting this, I see that 2 threads down someone posted about a rig for recording yourself from the top angle! Haha.

Well, I'll still take other suggestions as well!

Brian,

That is too funny... Yes, as you noticed, I just started a thread on this exact topic:

I don't own an ipad tripod adapter but I know you can get them too (but the ones I have seen are expensive).

Brian,

It turns out that the brand that makes my phone adapter also makes an ipad version for almost the same price:

Here's an example of one of my top view videos:

I only use top view for lessons. I think performances are nicer when you can see the person who is playing in the shot.

I'm using a tripod however with a video camera attached facing straight down.

Brian, please post a picture once you have your set-up ready.

Steve, great that you managed to use a regular tripod for this! Yes, the top view is excellent for lessons. Great playing by the way and your instructions are top notch!!

I just use a mobile with a semi decent video facility. The holder sticks onto a glass cupboard window . . .So you`ll need to buy a cupboard virtually overhangs your keyboard.

Now, if you play a 9 foot grand, that may be a slight problem . . . .
