Congrats , looking forward to your pics and review ! You must be one of the first (and very few) CS10 owners, so your thoughts about the DP are very valuable. Great choice , it's currently the best looking upright DP on the market IMHO.

I never encountered such troubles...
It seems Yamaha have a defective batch, or something
May I ask you if you tried with Virtual piano ?
In that case, do you also have loud noute issues ?
If yes, could you then check the Midi value which was sent ?
You can monitor that with either a MIDI tools or with the demo version of Pianoteq
In order to know if it comes from the sensors or from the internal sound generator.

I am sorry about the trouble you are facing
The NU1 is a fantastic piano for learning, and I really like it.

Regards

I tried vintage d and have the same problem. I also used pianoteq and record midi value, a 120 velocity Will be occasionally triggered while even normal FFF is about 110(BTW NU1 can't play stronger than FFF)

Enzo:

Virtual pianos had the same issues; in fact, the MIDI inconsistency of the sustain pedal was devastating for software pianos as it let notes "stick" and echo for extremely long times. This board helped me diagnose it with a MIDI monitor to see the values transmitted. That's how I was able to demonstrate the issue (both audibly and via the MIDI monitor) to the Yamaha authorized repair technician. The individual transmissions of notes was due to the MIDI value sent. The values would be in the 60-70ish range, then leap to the 100s, then immediately back into the 60-70. These weren't highly technical classical passages. I'm not a classical pianist. It just happened.

I should learn today the lead-time on a CS10 from a dealer closer to my home. Assuming it's reasonable, I'll end up paying an additional $1000 to "switch" from the NU1 to the CS10. While I'm nervous about not actually having played a CS10, I did play both the CA65 and CA95 both through headphones and not. I really like the polished ebony look; so I'm into the Kawai CS series. And I put a monitor atop the piano, so I really "need" the CS10 cabinet (as the keyboard/trackpad sit nicely upon the closed lid of the NU1 and ostensibly the CS10).

I regret deeply purchasing the Yamaha NU1. Thankfully, the dealer's "solution" to the problem works for me. Yamaha, at this point, never will again.

Eric

P.S. I love the idea behind the NU1. And I can imagine scenarios when it would be a wonderful instrument (like yours). I'm happy there are good NU1s. The cost is WAY to high to be defective in significant respects. Software pianos are an expectation, I think, with both the midi/USB ins.

I took delivery of a CS10 last week. It's an absolutely gorgeous piano. I'm an amateur player so can't offer a lot in how it compares to other acoustics or digitals, but the sound and action are a true pleasure. i compared against the NU1, but the extra cost and harder action of the NU1 made it a pretty easy choice for me.

The only issue I have with the CS10 is that out of the box the A0 key was rubbing and sticking. Tried to work it a little but it stuck permanently. I'm working with Kawai to schedule service. So far they're being pretty responsive. I'll post an update on how the issue resolves.

A few years back I had the CA95 for all of three days before I returned it. Obviously I didn't like it. I played the CS10 this year , briefly at NAMM, and thought that was the best Kawai digital I'd played. I've read some things here where people say they are the same (except for the cabinet) but I felt the CS10 was much better sounding and feeling then the 95 fwiw.

Don't care for the action on the NU1 at all. I do prefer the newer CFX sample on it though over the N1. Overall the N1 was more enjoyable for me to play.

Dave Ferris,
Now you got me excited about the CS10 and I can't wait to have mine delivered. I tried the CA95 in the store and somewhat underwhelmed. Hopefully, the CS10 would provide a better experience just like what you mentioned.

I can't tell from the photos that the bench that came with the CS10 is height adjustable?

Really nice ! Looks like eh....an ordinary piano (and that is a compliment). I wonder if you hide the volume knob , power led and inputs if you could trick someone into believing he's playing a real acoustic. Would be a nice experiment.

The bench is not height adjustable. It's a pretty basic/cheap bench. Does the trick for now, but I'll probably upgrade to an adjustable one with a little more padding in the future.

Kawai James- Yes the X100S is a sweet camera :-) Photography is my other passion/hobby. I just wish I could pick a hobby like writing haiku or meditating... a hobby where there's no beautiful, expensive instruments or cool technology to buy ;-)

SGBell - What a coincidence. My other hobby is also photography and my camera is also Fuji X100s!
Unfortunately, it looks like I may not get the CS10 like yours after all. My dealer just notified me the CS10 is in serious back order. I may have to pick another model, or turn to Yamaha frown.
