Has someone out there recently purchased a new Kawai K3 upright piano on or after Jan 2013? Larry Fine posts a SMP = $8,790 in his recent Fall edition. But this a pre-discount price. I just need a working idea of what someone has actually paid for the piano. I don't need the percentage discount, just the dollar amount paid without tax or shipping.

Any comments will be appreciated.

A friend of mine bought his K3 a few months ago at a price below $5K. It was part of a group purchase though.

When a group of pianos, typically 10 or more, are purchased at the same time, the cost to the dealer drops dramatically, allowing them to sell at a very steep discount. You can't expect anywhere near that discount for single purchases.

In the last one I did, I got a 10% extra discount on the pianos and free freight, a savings of hundreds of dollars on each piano. In addition, my delivery costs were lowered as they all lived in the same county, as was the cost of the free in-home tuning we included.

Boregard, the price will large depend on where you live too. In midwest, I think it's pretty impossible for a new one sells under 5K.

My son and I went to the local Kawai dealer last summer and we were quoted a price of $5900 for a brand new K-3.

My dad bought my K3 for $6-7000, back in November 2012. Not quite sure of the exact amount, I just remember that he paid for it in cash :P

You are quite correct. The price was of a group purchase of 10 pianos. Later the same dealer quoted me a much higher price on the same model. I said thanks to her and bought myself a Mason & Hamlin. grin
