I would suggest you check out the Bergmann 185 I think you will be impressed by it and it is more piano than the smaller Yamaha at that price and you remove all of the uncertainty about the company because the parent company is Hyundai and when all of the dust settles in the piano business they may be one of the last men standing.

While this is not the most musical reason to choose a piano, I guess the long-term health of the maker is a valid consideration. Still, when it comes to the publicly-held Korean manufacturers, I think all bets are off. A giant Korean conglomerate would certainly expect its piano unit to perform, and would be likely to dispose of it if it didn't.

Glenn,

As usual when it comes to Korean names, I'm confused. What has happened to the Hyundai piano line built by SMC at Inchon and imported to NA by North American Music? With Hyundai (the corporation) backing Young Chang these days, the presence of a Hyundai line from SMC seems to be another of those amusing ironies in the Korean piano industry.

Quality of Nordiska pianos my wife sees in the piano store where she teaches once a week seem to be holding up since the acquisition. So she tells me. But you might want to contact GIC directly and see if they're willing to comment on any possible qc rejection rate trends. And perhaps do the same with Story & Clark who I think also sources from Dongbei.
