Hi,

I'm just wondering if anyone can identify what standard Keith is playing on this recording (not good quality)? It's a lovely tune.

KJ Encore

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks

Sounds like pure improv to me.

I thought this before posting- sometimes I can't tell between his improvisations and standard playing which says a lot for his improvisations. There's a theme there which made me think it could be a known tune but I could be wrong.

f13s11, the closest I could come up with is in the classical realm -- a prelude of Federico Mompou -- only because the opening two measures, and the general feel of the piece are very similar. Jarrett, however, takes it in quite a different direction harmonically. If it is a standard from "The Great American Songbook", I don't know it -- it is a beautiful piece, though, and quite possibly, even probably, is Jarrett's own "standard", in addition to being his arrangement.
