Jazz is an important genre of music. And as a pianist, one should able to play a number of different styles, not limited to only classical repertoire.

Being able to appreciate a multitude of genres it is actually extremely helpful for interpreting classical music in return. This can also widen your horizon and your own musical expression.

Not just jazz, but piano and music in general. Piano doesn't ever let me down. Hey, I'm bringing into existence the miracle of humanity that is music. Women, work, society, booze, strip clubs etc. always lets me down and are a tease at best. But put me in front of a piano and I have the ability to become soulfully content and satiate all emotional needs, albeit, one keystroke at a time.
