Looking for a Canadian work (solo piano), that is romantic/late romantic in style.

Any suggestions?

There's a wonderful female Canadian Composer, named Sarah Konecsni... She will be publishing her works with EMF and we're currently working on her first score to be published in a few months...

but, her manuscripts are quite clean, so here's a few youtube videos:

Fantasy No. 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ePkDzVUM5ts
Fantasy No. 3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z14SU5Rx5I8
(these two should be published soon).

and this is part of her Alphabet pieces (to be published later on).

Why do you need specifically a Canadian composer, may I ask?

Have you looked here: http://www.musiccentre.ca/composers

Oskar Morawetz - Fantasy in D minor
Jean Coulthard - Image Astrale - probably more impressionistic than romantic

  • Schimmel Upright
  • Kawai VPC-1 with Pianoteq

Any issues or concerns are piped to /dev/null

Vid: I spent several hours on the website, but I'm looking for a specific sound. It was overwhelming trying to go through all of these people to find the style I'm going for.

Thanks!

I need a Canadian piece due to certain requirements...

Jacques Hétu or Denis Gougeon? The Hétu variations and Gougeon's Piano-Soleil seem pretty popularly programmed.

Pogo, you might want to give Maxwell Janis a try -- he posts here on PW occasionally, and has presented some very sophisticated and accessible (meaning late Romantic) compositions. He lives in British Columbia, so I'm assuming he's Canadian.

Also, one composer not yet mentioned is Harry Somers, who I believe has some solo piano pieces in his portfolio. There's also a woman named Murphy (can't remember her first name), but her style is not late Romantic, but what I call "soft contemporary", with a lot of pop influence.

Do you mean Kelly-Marie Murphy?

Also, another recommendation: David McIntyre

Yes, I'm aware of how to find Canadian composers.. just looking to extract some with the STYLE I'm looking for laugh

I just have a hard time with works without much melodic material. Since there are hundreds of Canadian composers, I was looking if someone knew how to narrow my search down a little bit...

Thanks for the suggestions!

Anyone know how one can get a copy of Hamelin's music? Beautiful stuff!

Contemporary and not really 'late-romantic' though this composer embraces quite a lot of different styles. Acquaintance of mine - you might want to have a look:

Check his 12 preludes for piano, on poems by Walt Whitman, perhaps:
