Hi Everyone,

Here are my four, anyone else here have some favourites?

the Lawrence Alma-Tadema Steinway (I'm not sure if this image is of the original or a replica I read about)
[Linked Image]

the Emperor Bösendorfer (probably appeals to my inner gold bug)
[Linked Image]

the Rheingold Bechstein (the mermaids are its saving grace!)
[Linked Image]

and this Bechstein with the lions at the Liszt museum in Weimar:

Art pianos are not always grands:

[Linked Image]

...like this Erard from about 1870.

[Linked Image]

Here is a 1927 Bosendorfer (very similar to the more modern model 275).

[Linked Image]

I also enjoy unusual modern art grands like this Fazioli.

[Linked Image]

...or this Schimmel Pegasus.

Nice thread. smile

I really like that Erard upright!

Here is a piano which is quite colourful (the Schimmel Otmar Alt):

I wish Schimmel had gone with this Pegasus design. It looks like it didn't get much beyond the C.A.D. stage:

Here is the article about it - http://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/artblog/2007/nov/14/theysaythatwritingabout

Yes, it has not yet been built.

However, along that line is this beauty:

Any gues as to what manufacturer built the piano?

Rich,

It's not a piano! It's one of those electronic gizmos with keys. It was built by Seaquarium und Sohne. (Yet another S&S)

Wow. Thank goodness for the human imagination.

Learning to play the piano, very happy with my 1907 Ivers Pond uprights, and ready to part with my Yamha C7 - not the sound I like.

One of the piano stores here in Dallas has a Pegasus for sale. I wasn't impressed with the sound, but that may have been its condition more than the piano itself. It was covered in microscratches because of the vinyl case. It was interesting, but for that money, I could have bought a very nice new Schimmel.

I too would rather pay for tone, sustain, how the action feels, et c., than the case design!

Sometimes I've wondered if there is any advantage to performing two piano music on something like this versus two grands fitting one curve inside the other - maybe to still have a lid directing the sound rather than taking the lids off would be one advantage:

Grotrian has built duo pianos on several occasions, but differently than Pleyel:

They displayed this one at NAMM a few years back. This one was more integrated than the first example:

I've played one of those reversed Baldwins. Everything comes out in inverted retrograde.
