Rickster, What a great hobby to have (in addition to just playing of course.) It was a fun video to watch and nice boogie playing. I had a Kimball Spinet once, but not in the same league as this. Sounding great ...

Rickster, you are just getting so good. Love the way you improvise and keep putting out new things for us to listen to. Thanks. thumb

Greener - That was a great performance of the Forest Gump theme! It brought back memories of that lovely movie. Great job on keeping a steady rhythm. It sounds like a very fun piece to play! Thanks for sharing!

Rickster - I think your new baby grand piano sounds great! Your playing is top notch as always!! I can hear in the tone that the piano is happy to be in its new home.

Thanks for the kind comments, All!

The Kimball is a little bright and tinny sounding, but it will sound better when I do some serious regulating and voicing. It sounds okay for what I paid for it, and will be a good project to practice my meager piano tech skills on.

I have really enjoyed learning to play the piano and learning to tune and service them; and, I'm in the early stages of the learning curve on both... smile

Keep up the great piano playing folks!!

Rick

Rick~ congrats on picking up what appears to be a very unmarred, dusty, and slightly neglected Kimball. No doubt when you are finished with it, the next owner will be proud to have its sound fill their home. Great boogie work, man. You got some chops!

Jeff~ Always enjoy watching Forrest Gump. Your playing it makes one want to learn to play it, too. Very well done.

Thank you kindly, everyone.

Yes, indeed it is fun to play. I took it on as it sounded fun, and also thought it would be easy. Turns out, it wasn't so easy to learn. I struggled quite a bit with the rhythm / timing, particularly in the second A when the counter melody comes in. After that though, it was just practice (which I can always use more of) in cleaning it up and trying to get it smooth.

I was thinking of doing "Georgia" next, but feeling a bit intimidated with a Mr. P version of this out there recently. Perhaps I'll wait a couple of weeks until the memory fades.

Well, here's an arrangement of one of my favorite Chopin pieces.

Yes, I also find boogie difficult. Sinophilia's piece is not easy to play at all!

Elssa, how beautiful your playing of Nocturne. Many great performances, I've got a lot of catching up to do to watch them all.

In light of all the good contributions, it's a shame that the Piano bar has fallen of the front page. I'm not the right man to get it back there, but here is a short piece after a long absence from the piano. That long absence is actually another shame, for that matter.

I decided to record straight to a USB key (how cool is that?) a prelude in C on my newly arrived PX-5S. Synced audio with video from my webcam. Hope you like it, intend to post more ambitious stuff in the future!

Thanks, Amaruk smile I really enjoyed your playing and creative video editing arrangement. I was just using the usual strings and sometimes bells along with the basic piano of my Roland, nothing fancy (which I wouldn't know how to do anyway). lol

That was very nice, TheodorN - looking forward to more in the future. thumb

Elssa - I am impressed how you can change sounds in and out so easily/quickly while playing. Well done!

Theodor - Congratulations to your new piano! It sounds great and you are off to a great re-start with that performance of the prelude. Good job also on the technical side by grabbing the audio from your piano recording and syncing it up with the video from your webcam! What video editor do you use by the way? Looking forward to see more of your videos here.

Thanks again Amaruk. I was also an organist (electric and pipe) for many years, so guess I got used to changing stops and "pushing buttons" that way. smile Would love to learn some of your great video "tricks", but I probably couldn't do most of them with my editing program (Pinnacle Studio 12). confused

Thanks Amaruk. I'm mostly using FFMPEG with a socalled batch file. Meaning it just opens up a command window (like the old DOS) while the videos are being processed.

The first thing I did thouch, was converting the web camera's video file from Windows media format to mp4 with Handbrake. Then I convert the WAV audio file from the piano into mp3. Finally I synced the mp3 and mp4 files together.

I usually don't get things synced in the first try, have to do it a few times till I get it right. Actually I used Audacity to calculate the difference between the audio and video tracks (when the audio starts and when I press the first key on the keyboard.) I could do that by noting the clicking sound, since I was playing with headphones.

Not an easy road, if anyone knows about some free syncing software, it would be appreciated. I didn't find any such software.

Theodor - That is impressive that you managed to sync you video the way you did it! I am not aware of any free tools for syncing but many video editors have a trial period of 30 days. You could download one of them to see if you like that flow better.

Elssa - Yes, I think that your experience as an organist explains why you handle the function buttons on your DP with such easy while playing. Do you have any videos where you play church organ on your DP?

I only have a few Christmas songs (Hark the Herald Angels Sing, etc) recorded with the pipe organ on my DP, but I've always wanted to play/record some arrangement of Bach's "Joy" (Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring) using that setting, so maybe I'll try and do that one of these days. smile

My contribution is a solo piano version of Somewhere from West Side story. I heard this done as a tribute to those torn apart by hatred at a 9/11 ceremony once. It was beautiful. This one is modeled somewhat after the Bill Charlap version. It was emotional getting past the red dot yesterday

wuxia terrific playing as I said before on another thread and not to take anything away from the Chopin piece, Moonlight Sonata is just fabulous. The rise and fall of emotion in this piece is so delicate under your fingers with the voicings just right, well done

kenjazz a fine job on a classic piece which further adds to a very talented September piano bar.

Wuxia - Fantastic playing!!! I am very familiar with the Moonlight sonata and I really enjoyed your rendition of it. I am impressed how steady you keep the rhythm. Only 2 years at the piano! Was that 2 years non-stop then? smile Well done! Thanks for sharing and I look forward to hear more of your performances here.

Kenjazz - What a great song to play on a special day like 9/11! Loved it! I especially like how you bring out the dynamics in it. Great job!! Was this your own arrangement?
