I wouldn't know about this composer if I hadn't run into this video while piano browsing.

What's the name of this piece? Do you know any Chaminade?

Land of the never-ending music
I have played the Concertino for Flute and Piano, both instruments, but not at the same time!

Don't know that piece, but here are a couple that I played.
Sort of. grin

This one:

.....is an arrangement of a piece called "Scarf Dance" for orchestra. Our junior h.s. orchestra played it (you can imagine how we must have sounded). I was in the 1st violin section. ha

And then there was this which is a page from a book in the John Schaum Piano Course series, "Book H." That series was what my teacher used and I played everything in those silly books, so I played this piece.
BTW I'm not sure the books really were silly but I wish I'd gotten more "real" pieces and not so much just what was in those books.

BTW I included a mention of Chaminade in my 'review' on Amazon of a David Dubal book (it's about 1/3 of the way down the page).

This is a fun piece. And judging by the opening, we know one little open secret about Chaminade: she must have been quite taken with Wagner's overture to 'Flying Dutchman'. wink

I've played her Concert Etude No. 2, entitled "Autumn." Very nice piece!

That is Pierrette (Air de Ballet). It's a lovely piece and can be played quite beautifully.

Yeah, every flutist knows the Concertino. My youngest played it last year in concert. It's a great showpiece for a young player.

Yup - I learned it out of the 4th Grade John Thompson book. It was my "big piece" when I was eleven and I'm sure our neighbors got "really sick" of listening to it !! grin

ha Well, I heard it a lot myself, because my dad played it a lot. He liked Chaminade and played a couple of her other pieces as well.

And kudos to Joel for bringing her to our attention. I think she's a very neglected composer. smile
