Has anyone read Doug Hufstader's "Goedel, Escher, Bach: An Eternal Goldeb Braid" lately? Read it when it first came out. Wonderful! Should re-read it again. Cheers

That was great, Rich. Thank you for posting it. Now I'm wondering how to create music on a Klein bottle. Brilliant! Thanks for posting Rich. If ONLY they had used REAL instruments instead of a digital replication They tried that at first, but when they turned the harpsichord upside down and inside out, all the plectra fell off.

They don't bend very well either. Amazingly, the tuning wasn't affected.

Has anyone read Doug Hofstadter's "Goedel, Escher, Bach: An Eternal Golden Braid" lately? I have the book in my shelf and (try to) re-read it every few years. But Hofstadter always loses me towards the end, in spite of Mathematics being one of my university majors. Every time, I give him the benefit of the doubt and put the book back in the shelf, frustrated. [Edit: In fact, I've spoken to a number of friends, all of whom have majored in Mathematics, who've read the book. None of them really grasps the mathematical aspects of the book. They all agree with me that it's "quaint", but if one is after a real understanding of its contents, not just some cute parallelisms, then it's not very satisfying at all. Sorry, but that's my experience also.]
