Movies with piano tuners as major characters must be rare. I've never actually seen one.

But today I came across one channel surfing. The Unleashed, starring Morgan Freeman as the blind piano tuner who befriends Jet Li, martial arts assassin.

In his first scene Morgan walks into a room full of pianos that are impressively far out of tune "this is going to take me a couple of hours." Hee, hee. Morgan stands behind an upright holding his hammer while Jet Li plays a key needing tuning.

I don't know how it ends, the family commandeered the TV to watch The View.

Have seen this [the Morgan Freeman film]. It is pretty good.

Here is the oldest that I've been able to find. ca.1921. From the silent era, "Tuning up." Main character is Bud the piano tuner.

Bob, Very funny. Thanks.

Are one of you fine tooners planning to provide a sound track?

There was the truly bizarre movie "The Piano Tuner of EarthQuakes." There was a piano tuner in the movie but instead of working on pianos he worked on some strange automatons.

Although this interview film does not play out like a movie, it has some golden nuggets about tuning for Glenn Gould:

Here's part 2:

[video:youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=TeR8sv0vCW0[/video]

Seems like it could be made into a small movie about a tuner's life (coming of age, military service, etc.) and then his more revealing "behind-the-scenes" view of great 20th century pianists who are now idolized.

Two weeks ago I had a little crew in my shop. They are filming a short film for a film festival.
They had one actor tuning a Steinway upright and later regulating a Steinway grand
and some dialogue between an actor (the Boss) and the tuner (the apprentice)
I know later that week they were going to be filming at a local theatre.
The actor struggled with getting a unison in. smile

I look forward to seeing the finished project.

I once had the "privilege" of being the piano expert for a pilot "reality" pawn shop show.

Though I know pianos and was called on to help with the script (reality mind you from a script)the rest were actors and the story pure fiction.

Regardless, it was quite an experience and I made the cut. Any chance of seeing your swing through fame?

The movie "Pianomania" which is on Netflix is absolutely astonishing. Quite a few tuning scenes and a lot of regulation scenes. Interesting movie. Check it out smile
