oh this is very sad indeed.
This inspires me to listen to her interviews which Knotty posted on another thread.

Sad yes, but she lived a very full life and touched countless thousands of people.

One of our members (Robin Meloy Goldsby) mentions in her book Piano Girl about being on Marian's show.

Robin said Marian was a joy to be with and very gracious, putting a very nervous young pianist at ease. She had Robin play something, and Marian just jumped in and improvised, it sound great of course.

This is the announcement on NPR of her passing Marian McPartland NPR

Brava, Marian, that's what I say. She was gracious, inspirational, courageous, musical, and kind. She was an English rose of a grandmother who could kick butt on the piano. I adored her.

I wrote about my day recording with Marian in my book "Waltz of the Asparagus People." As soon as I get clearance I will post that essay here for all of you. In the meantime, here is a link to our NPR Piano Jazz program. It was, without a doubt, one of the highlights of my career.

Let's celebrate her beautiful life.

She was a joy to listen to and her way of always finding something to compliment her guests on was reassuring and comforting without being empty platitudes. 95! I hope to be still alive. She had a great run, more celebratory than sad.

Terrible shame. She was a great lady. I loved her NPR radio program and have a lot of her recordings. She could hold her own with the best of them. At least she didn't get cheated. Nothing wrong with 95. Hope she's having a reunion with Bill Evans. Their program together was the greatest!

Very sad, but fortunately her music and insightful interviews live on.

Playing piano at age 2, it was thought that I was some sort of idiot-savant. As it turns out, I'm just an idiot.

Here is a link to the Pittsburgh Post Gazette and a little piece I wrote about Marian. They published it in their weekend "First Person" column. This is a mini version of the story in "Waltz of the Asparagus People."

Happy reading.
