I recently bought an old, about 100 y.o. Ant. Petrof upright piano. Tomorrow i am getting it tunned and i can't wait to get my hands on it, right now it doesn't sound so nice. I've always wanted to be a pianist, so this is is when my dream starts.
So...i need recomandations with what i should start, i played a little bit 2 years ago and started praticing Hannon, so i am going to start it over again. But i want names of books that would help me beging my road to becoming a great pianist.

PS - next month i will also be getting a piano teacher, but it's a few weeks away and i don't want to waste time just sitting around and doing nothing.

Will apriciate any advice. Thanks grin

Congrats on the new/old piano! Must be pretty exciting smile

I suggest starting with Alfred's books as they start from the very beginning and will get you some solid foundation for when you start your lessons.

Disregard the Hanon. If you don't have or plan on getting a teacher in the near future, a children's or adult's piano method book would be the way to get started. Many on the forums here use or got started with Alfred's Adult All-in-One - there are three volumes.

Congratulations on the new/old piano. Your teacher will be your guide for suitable material, however I think scales are a great start. Yeah I know they can be kind of boring but so essential and what you learn will not be wasted.

Problems with piano are 90% psychological, the other 10% is in your head.

Congrats on getting a new-to-you piano! Don't do Hanon on your own.
