I had an interesting conversation today with someone who said I should write a brochure about why people specifically choose live piano for their wedding -- as opposed to harpist, DJs, string quartets, etc.

I thought this was an interesting idea and thought throwing it out to several pianists, especially ones who have played for weddings, would get me going writing it.

Here are some questions:
1) What are some good points to "sell" a bride specifically on piano music?
2) What reasons have you heard people specifically say they wanted piano music for their own wedding?
3) What "type" of bride generally chooses piano music? For example, is there a certain age range, personality, budget range, etc, that piano appeals more to?

Thanks for any thoughts!

I had a keyboardist play at our wedding, a local musician whom we knew and whose work my husband and I admired. I also have to confess that the expense and simplicity of a single musician played a role... the wedding was held at our home, I was an older bride (33 at the time) and it was my hubby's second wedding, so we were going low-key and easy. smile

(Since the ceremony was at our house, outside, that explains the use of a keyboard rather than acoustic piano--which I didn't own at the time. Much easier to transport and set up!)

My experience is that someone has a soft spot for the sounds of a piano.

Pianos look really good in wedding photos.

heck I was at a wedding myself, they had hired a grand piano in white (couldn't see any brand markings on it) for the photos.

I even had a go on it.

- A piano can be like a whole orchestra, no other instrument can do that.

- There's nothing more beautiful than the romantic sound of a piano.

I personally would chose a classical guitarist or harpist over a digital. First choice though is a good grand piano.
