Some history and info about the piano: 1920's Baldwin baby grand, in a town in Nevada that is almost a ghost town (1 school, 1 post office, 1 civilian business, a bar). VERY poor.

Was in the school for many years, tuned once every 3-5 years, not used much, then relegated to the town fire house (unheated, not tuned for 15 years, oftentimes -25 degrees f). THEN given to the community church (congregation of 12, no bathroom in building, no heat during winter, often 120 degrees f in summer). They asked me to tune it. Got there, both front legs are broken off from the frame of the piano, laying to one side. Rear leg on a stage truck, front held up by pedal harp in the middle, the treble corner of the piano sitting on the bench with a big sign on it "Do not touch piano"!!!!!

Checking a few notes that I can reach, it is about 1 full semitone flat. Rusty strings, mouse droppings, GOOD GRIEF!

I tuned the little spinet across the room after going down to the post office to discuss the situation with the contact person who wanted to know what I would charge to 'fix' the grand.

I told her is was FAR from worth repairing.

What was YOUR worst piano lately?

Oh yes, did I mention that it was 18 miles off the beaten path each way?? They paid in advance, so I had to do SOMETHING!

I think the worst ones lately are the stomach-turning cascades of breaking parts and/or strings. After a verbal estimate is made, it gets really dicey with some clients when things go badly wrong one after another. Some owners understand, some don't. "Some days are Diamonds, Some days are Stones"

It's not a bad piano unless I don't get paid.

Thankfully the ones we don't get paid for don't happen too often. . .
