5 is a fair bit more expensive but not seeing that it offers much more...in fact, though it offers more voices, it has way less recording tracks (8 to 17). Doesn't even have speakers. ?

The 5S has superior EPs (with downloadable alternative variations), and a pretty extensive and powerful synth engine. The APs are based on the same samples, but I gather have been "tweaked" in the 5S - again there are downloadable variations. The 5S also has sympathetic resonance that is not included on the 350. The 5S lacks half-pedaling and speakers, but includes more hands-on controls that can be assigned to what you want. There are probably plenty of other differences, but essentially one is designed for the stage, and the other more for home use with a more straightforward interface.

FYI this is home use, but I do plan to use this to do some recordings as well, so some "professional" application (course that's a matter of debate if you hear my stuff ).

PS I am also seeing PX-3 for a good bit less...? Are they sympathetic or just mean old SOBs?

In a piano, when a note is struck, (such as C - root) the undamped strings of other important notes of the same scale (such as G - fifth/dominant) will vibrate slightly at the same time (it's a mathematical thing!).

That is modeled in the PX-5S making for a very slightly richer/more resonant sound.

I'm afraid the PX-3 is very unsympathetic, and will likely slap your wrists if you so much as dare to call a B# chord C inappropriately.

AFAIK the PX-3 is closer to the PX-330 than the 350, although it, too, has upgraded EPs.

PX-350 is a piano. PX5S is a MIDI controller, synth, and piano.

The PX5S is much stronger in its multiple sound capability (i.e. more flexible in its split and layer functionality), it has improved sounds and sound editing, it is better equipped to control external sounds (mod wheel, savable presets for external sounds, assignable knobs and faders, etc.). It is simply a more professional machine. I think the 350, without those features but with auto-accompaniment and the like, is more geared to a hobbyist.

Thx for that info. Hm - I'll have to see if I can find more specifics. Doubt I really need more layering or splitting than the others provide really...not as sure about the sound editing possibiities, though I'd think the ability to hook any of them up to the ol PC would negate much of that.
