Yes, it is still July but I have never opened the bar before so here we go...
The month of August is named after emperor Augustus. My piece is related to another emperor, or Czar rather...
In 1976 I watched a very good German TV series called Michael Strogoff: Der Kurier des Zaren (The Courier of the Czar). It is based on Jules Verne's book with the same name. In this TV series Nadia's theme is used often and I loved it right away. I recently purchased the sheets for it but I modified it to my taste and this performance is my arrangement.
The plot in Jules Verne's book is set in Russia during Czar Alexander II reign. Thus, I figured I should perform this piece in the ballroom in his stunning residence, the Alexander Palace, located just outside St. Petersburg in Russia.
Music composed by Vladimir Cosma.

Gorgeous! I love the piece as well as the neat backgrounds you use during your videos.
I'm also commenting to remind myself to record a Keveren arrangement of "Julia" that I've been working on for fun.

Yes, it is still July but I have never opened the bar before so here we go...
The opening of each successive Piano Bar keeps creeping backward into the previous month - at 1st it was the day before - then it became two days before - now it is back to 3 days before - if this trend continues we may be kicking off each monthly Bar over a month before that given month actually starts - e.g., the Aug., 2014 Bar opening up in late June, 2014 - just goes to show what eagerness will do - maybe we should start a weekly or daily Piano Bar - but, I suspect "opening creep" would creep into them too...

Anne Thank you! Yes, record your Julia and share it with us here in the piano bar! Trapper Peyton Yes, it was fun to film this in Russia. By the way, imagine if you could record your lovely "Message from Space" pieces from space on day?

Amaruk There`s always plenty to get stuck into on soundtracks. Flows well, as usual. Authentic sounding and an excellent listen!

Amaruk,
That was just beautiful. And I love the setting. You set the bar awfully high with this opening act! Bravo.

I was thinking of making my first submission to the quarterly recitals, but couldn't get a recorded result that really pleased me. You can hear my yellow lab registering a few grumbles on this take, but at least he wasn't flat out protesting! This is Canon in D minor, by Aleksandr Scriabin. It was written in 1883 when he was quite young. If you have ever wanted to conquer 3 against 2 polyrythms this is the piece to have at it. Three vs. two alternates left and right hands each measure, with lots of three against two using one hand for two voices as well. Recorded with my Zoom 1. Don't know what others do that recordings sound so good, mine don't ever seem to have that quality level, and frankly seem just as good when done on my Android phone or Kindle FireHD. https://app.box.com/s/fnhaa6gn8nhu5si8aic8

David Ruzicka And very good too, David! The Scarlatti pieces are always popular, and little wonder. This was harpsichordish . . but sounded well on your piano. What is it?

A pensive, mood inducing piece played on a lovely acoustic (I usually get this bit wrong) piano and well recorded. In a big room perhaps?
I enjoyed this.

JimF That was a lovely performance!! Very even and with great dynamics. I have never heard this piece before but I really liked it right away. I don't know what you don't like about your recording quality. It sounds great to me. David Great peformances!! I really like how your fingers dance so easily over the keyboard! Well done!! I like your decorative animals on the piano too.

Peyton, imagine if you could record your lovely "Message from Space" pieces from space on day? If I could figure out how the heck you do your amazing videos I would.... Peyton, my videos are in fact quite simple once you break it down. PM me if you want to know more details behind them. This video was the first time I used a mirror effect in the piano. I made it subtle not to stand out too much though.

Oh so many classical pieces! So I think I can link my Bach's minuet. Dynamics all over the place but overall a huge achievement for me! https://soundcloud.com/sinophilia/bach-minuet-in-g-minor

Great August entries so far
Jim F, loved the dog growling but loved the piece and your sensitive playing even better.
David, great pieces both I want to be able to play that good one day
sinophilia, your first Bach piece learned in only two weeks.....fantastic and played with confidence. Be careful of Bach you can't stop at just one lol

That was really evocative . . .Bach looked a stern dude, sorta poker faced ole git who told you what to do at school . . he taught me English - when he laughed, you laughed. And stopped when his expression changed . . .
Your piano sounds well!

Amaruk~ Excellent music, background scenes, mood, and your playing. Great work!
JimF~ Scriabin music always gets my attention. You bring out the dynamics and mood of the piece quite nicely. I like how you interpreted this and clearly bring the voices to the fore.
David~ Great to see you back after a long break. Your playing has definitely improved. Very smooth and you play so very relaxed.
sinophilia~ you play the Bach Minuet with such confidence. It's great you tackle Bach's music that way. The dynamics make this piece of art shine with color. I look forward to hearing more!
