Hello. I just joined, having bought our first piano last week. We paid $350 for a local used "Grand Piano Co." upright. The cabinet was in decent shape (a few nicks here and there), the hardware for the music rack was missing ($10 fix), and it was out of tune (just tuned by a great tech). We did our research and knew that it wasn't the world's best piano by any stretch. But it was the right price, and it will be a great starter piano for our kids (and for my wife to play again -- it's been 20 years for her!).

Interesting company history here:

It would be fun to find out when the piano was made, and anything else we can learn from the serial number: 1265277

Does anyone here have a piano encyclopedia/atlas that might help us date it?

Thanks in advance.

East Nashville,TN Scottsville...
I happen to know a little bit about the the brand " Grand" The owners of the company kept terrible records apparently and it is very difficult to nail down build dates on their pianos. Sometimes we find original bills of sales with the pianos and they are years off with that and the casting date on the iron plate. I have a couple now that were sold new in 1975 but have 1969 casting dates on the plate which is just crazy.

When someone calls me and say hey I have a " Grand" piano I want you to come pick up I always then ask if it is an upright just in case.
