Hello, I've been playing piano for about 2 years and am at the point where I am looking to expand my knowledge of theory and composition. I've written my second piano piece and am looking for people to tell me their honest opinions and critiques of it.

Actually, I would say for having played the piano for only 2 years it is pretty good. You have some nice ideas and some fluidity but for me listening to the same progression repeatedly only makes my mind lose interest. If you had a bridge I never listened that long into the piece.

thanks for sharing your piano piece Kraahkan,

I get the feeling that your playing would do well accompanied by other musicians. do you play with others?
your thrust forward in your piece gets rather repetitive
are you composing from some ideal?
art tends to reveal.

@Rada - Thanks very much. ^.^ I have heard from other people critiquing my piece that my composition's progressions is repetitive. Do you think this is a problem I could solve rhythmically with a variation of patterns in my left hand, or should I try changing up the harmony itself?

@Dara - I only have one friend that I play regularly with (he plays guitar), but I do play in my church's worship team once and a while.

What do you mean by composing from an ideal?

Yes, different rhythms can break up a repetitive pattern but I think you would need to change your chord progression as well. It's common to bridge sections major-minor or minor -to major.
So if you have Em-Em/D-Em/C-D.....an example to bridge might be
G-G/F#-G/E-D.....if that makes sense....you may prefer to stay in the minor mode.....you might alter rhythm in the bridge section...
just some ideas.

Absolutely lovely!!! Please do more! (without the period of heaviness of course) smile
Just lovely. Thank you for sharing it, I can't believe it only took you two years to get that good!

Tell someone that you love them today because life is short, but scream it in German because life is also terrifying and confusing.

@Rada - Thank you, I think I'll play around with some different chord progressions the next time I play this piece.
@Soza - I'll be sure to post my next piece here then. =D
