Or maybe a Miss-try? I think it's a stencil from Oops & Sons.

It's much easier to bash a Steinway than it is to play one.

I'm not quite sure if it has increased my faith in the brand, however.

I've never considered Mapel [sic] (maple?) to be a 'tone wood' for a soundboard.

The "Mapel" is for the bridge.

Quote
Steinway bridges are made of vertically laminated hard rock maple with a solid maple cap

I guess the Mapel can't be all that bad ... grin

I do wonder, however, what "two lacquer quotes" means.

BTW, I'm reminded of other silly choices of names.

Remember the Mercury Mystique, er, mistake?

Why would anyone want to coat a soundboard?

Being built in India, it might catch cold in N.A. Nothing worse than a Mistry with sniffles.

I prefer a spicy temperament.

Yeah, that spicy temperament works well with a Habanera.

The site , on it's history page, proudly mentions the apprenticeship of young Ajay Mistry with Grotrian Pianos and also Rudolf Hartmann in Germany. The Mistry family have been actively involved with piano rebuilding and technicians/tuners for over a hundred years.
They are exclusive dealers for Grotrian in India.
More than 1 out of every 10 people on this planet, live in India.
That is rather staggering, at least to me.

What prompted you Jolly to post this thread about A. Mistry & Co. ?

I wonder why the responses to your inquiry have , for the most part been mocking, making fun of....
a newcomer to the piano world of manufacture, initiative and myriad of details and commitments involved.

Our mission: to explore strange new pianos; to seek out new forms and new manufacturers; to boldly go where no Piano Forum member has gone before.

And if you dig back through the archives, you'll find I'm one of the few people to propagate threads on Russian pianos and Russian piano manufacturing methods.

Why?

Because it interests me... smile
