I am looking for a piano lamp that will relieve eye strain for my myopic daughter. We have one that came with our first piano and it is too strong and yellow. Any recommendation. Any advice! Budget is $100. Thanks.

Help is on the way! I just purchased a wonderful piano lamp for much less than $100.

2 or 3 weeks ago, I played rehearsals for the Brahms Requiem. The rehearsals happened to be in a space with poor lighting.

One of the singers brought a light for me to use in the 2nd rehearsal. It worked so well that I now have one of my own.

It's a double mini-book light made by Mighty Bright, called Duet2. The beauty of it is that it lights both the left and right-hand pages completely, no glare, no shadows. The lights are adjustable in terms of brightness and position. And they don't shine in the audience's eyes.

I paid $20.33.

The other wonderful thing about this light is that it's so easy to carry around! I no longer have a need for the older music stand lights used in pit orchestras.

You can see it here: Mighty Bright Duet2

The Amazon page includes pictures that show exactly how much of the music is lighted, with no shadows.

p.s. The lamp is available with different ways to set it up. There is a solid bass that sits on top of the piano, a clip that clips to the music rack (or the music, or a binder of music), and a combination package that you can switch around. You can also get a charger.

This is so much better than the old music stand lights used in pit orchestras. Too many shadows on the music, shines in people's eyes.

Nice, take advantage of the small bulbs of today.

The old incandescence bulbs for music desks are expensive.

I dont know for the quality of the light but I like to read with such lamps.

Doesn't a good solid bass come from within the piano, rather than from on top?

(Sorry, couldn't resist. The spelling mistake is usually the other way around. There is no question that you are a true musician!)

I hope your major scales don't come from that bass!

Better hurry up and fin-ish your practicing - heard you are working on Schubert's Trout piece?

gotta go practice

Uh oh.

When writing my post, the word order sounded strange, so I changed it. Spelling? Never even noticed.

The quality of the light is wonderful, much better than the glare of the old lamps. I tried it out in a dark area, during rehearsal of a chromatic, densely notated piano reduction.

So, the base was stable as the bass roared forth?

In my neck of the woods, we call a 32' diapason a wide mouth bass.

I grew up not that far from your neck of the woods, in Burlington, IA.

Good , that looks perfect for personal use, but I seem to believe that the lamps for the orchestras are in low wattage , may be for security reasons.

Pössibly also they are supposed not to shine too much due to
the audience.

Anyway they gives an acceptable light (a little yellow, but it seem to be OK) , but replacement bulbs are (where?) very expensive. The bulbs can turn to be noisy , also...
