With the advent of the new whippen model (from Schwander type to Erard type , but the modifications where not only about the springs) the jack angle opened...

'Aesthetics. It just looks so much purtier.

(My guess would be that it gives a longer more robust hammer throw, but I'm not entirely sure I understand your question.)

Thank you David, no it is no aesthetics, the answer is simple and can apply to uprights too.

It change the hammer throw during letoff yes but there is another reason .

As it oblige to use longer letoff dowels or screws it may have a reason to be used, if not only the shape of the whippen would have changed (with Erard springs and the raising of the whippen center)

Tip : That said it is not even "perfect", in the aspect I think of
